Bodega de Moya makes a wine with Justina Bobal from the grape named Bobal<\/a>The grape itself is hardly known to many people, but in Spain\u2014after tempranillo<\/a>\u2013 still the most widely planted red grape. There is something else special about this Bopal, namely that the grapes can produce very impressive wines of superior quality if the vineyard is planted at more than 700 meters above sea level. At De Moya, they have understood this well, and you can taste that in this wine!<\/p>\n

Bodega De Moya<\/h2>\n

De Moya<\/a> is a family business founded by Yves and Sophie Laurijssens. The family is originally from Belgium and is known there for its expertise in successful \"turnarounds\": making loss-making companies profitable again. Out-of-the-box thinking is indispensable in this process. And that, combined with their Burgundian attitude, is precisely what ultimately led the family to start a wine business in the landscape around Valencia and to produce wines there from local grapes: Bobal and Monastrell for red, and Merseguera for white. With De Moya, Yves and Sophie aim to create wines that combine the traditions of the region with efficiency and modern winemaking techniques. The terroir of the old vineyards yields complex and exciting wines that are food-friendly and, moreover, very affordable.<\/p>\n

Terroir and winemaking<\/h2>\n

Valencia<\/a> is known for its Mediterranean climate with dry, hot summers. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 850 meters, and the poor soil consists of sandy loam. Yields are very low. The grapes are organically grown, but De Moya is not certified. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks and lasts 21 to 30 days. This is followed by aging for 4 months in oak barrels. The blend consists of bobal<\/a> (87%), syrah<\/a> (10%), cabernet sauvignon<\/a> (3%).<\/p>\n

Taste and food pairing<\/h2>\n

The Moya Justina Bobal is a cherry-red wine with aromas of ripe red fruit, including cherry and strawberry, toast, spices, and refined minerality. Medium-bodied with a round taste and soft tannins. The ripe red fruit comes into its own slightly chilled with poultry, rich pastas, and wood-fired pizza. The spiciness of the Bobal pairs perfectly with tapas and BBQ meats.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
