The winemaker at Matsu<\/a> has opted for a concept that is unconventional. The faces on the labels depict the maturation of the wine. The name says something about the character of the wine.<\/p>\n

El Picaro; the villain<\/a><\/h2>\n

Matsu El Picaru tastes like the young man looks: nice and young, fast, fresh and fruity and uncomplicated. This youngest of the bunch has a villainous character. A bit of a Ciske de Rat among wines. Tough with a fresh youthfulness. Generous, small ripe cherry sweetness, pink pepper, laurel and a nice spicy bit of tannin at the end. The Matsu El Picaro is the youngest red wine of three Matsu wines. This wine has not been aged in wood. Dark red color with a scent of dark ripe fruit, earthy and wood with some leather. Taste: lots of ripe black fruit combined with an oak forest floor. The above without being bulky, almost fresh, nice balance, leaves you wanting more! Great for on the couch, but also delicious on the BBQ, but also not to be missed with a stew with a traditional smoked sausage. The fruit goes wonderfully with smoked dishes.<\/p>\n

Matsu El Picaro is made from Tinto de Toro, the local variant of Tempranillo in the Toro wine region, sourced from vines over 50 years old. The harvest is entirely by hand during the first 15 days of October when the grapes are fully ripe. The grapes are gently pressed in a pneumatic press, followed by natural fermentation in concrete tanks at a temperature below 24\u00b0C. One-fifth of the wine undergoes 3 months of aging in French oak, after which the wine is bottled without filtration to preserve its natural characteristics.<\/p>\n

El Recio; the strong one<\/a><\/h2>\n

The Matsu El Recio is a powerful red wine from Spain. El Recio means: the strong one. This wine grabs you firmly right away. Powerful and compelling. This Tinto de Toro is made from vines 90 to 100 years old! Low production, therefore, and a high intensity of flavor. Dark purple in color in the glass. A full and sultry aroma of fruit and earthy notes on the nose. On the palate, a complex, round, yet smooth and silky taste of blackberry, cherry, chocolate, vanilla, bay leaf, wood, leather, and minerals. This is a wine with an intense flavor and therefore great power. No fussiness here; once opened, the Matsu El Recio reveals itself generously! Serve it with a lamb stew, grilled meat (ribs!!), or rich hard cheeses like Manchego.<\/p>\n

El Viejo; the old one<\/a><\/h2>\n

Matsu el Viejo: the old one\u2026. but wise and complete. Our iconic wine from Matsu is powerful, complex and carries an old soul. A proud wine that you have to learn to understand to get to know it well. A deep cherry color with hints of violet. You smell ripe dark fruit, vanilla and beautiful light roasted nutty notes. You taste deep notes of blackcurrant and plum, a full texture with strong tannins at the end that leave the wine standing straight up. A beautiful Tinta de Toro (the local name for Tempranillo) from very old vines. The Matsu El Viejo: A wine that you cannot ignore, sometimes stubborn and sometimes awe-inspiring.<\/p>\n

Matsu<\/h2>\n

Matsu is Vintae's unique sustainable organic wine project in the Spanish wine region of Toro. The Toro wine region is located northwest of Madrid on the River Duero and has held D.O. recognition since 1987. Ra\u00fal Acha, Vintae's winemaker, went in search of old vineyards for organic viticulture; in his search, he even found a vineyard with vines nearly 100 years old. This search and the winemaking process are reflected in the name of this wine project.<\/p>\n

Matsu means \u201cpatient balance\u201d in Japanese. Matsu is inspired by the Japanese tradition of caring for nature in purity and simplicity. It is a tribute to the Spanish wine tradition. All wines are made from grapes grown in a completely natural environment, using the most advanced biodynamic techniques.
