Cascina Gherzina Barolo Riserva DOCG is the flagship wine of the Cascina Gherzina winery. This wine has aged in oak barrels for 36 months and then for at least another 12 months in the bottle. The result is a refined wine with beautiful complexity. Mind you: this is a serious wine! Barolos are high in acidity and, especially at a young age, have quite a bit of tannin. This is the ultimate food wine! With a fine dish, this will be the star of the evening!<\/p>\n
This Barolo Riserva has a bright light red color. An intense nose of blackberries, violets, oak aging, cigar box, licorice, and some balsamic. A pleasant drying mouthfeel due to the tannins, as is often the case with Nebbiolo. On the palate, berries, blackberries, wood, and tobacco. A wine that can certainly age for 10 to 12 years. A wine with good structure, an aromatic profile of spices, and hints of licorice. Full and velvety on the palate with well-integrated tannins.<\/p>\n

The estate is situated in the heart of the Langhe, by the tiny Lake Ghercina, which nevertheless provides sufficient cooling for the small vineyard. Cascina Ghercina was acquired by brothers Paolo and Guido Sartirano in 2002. They are part of the Sartirano family, which has been successfully producing wine since 1871 and owns various estates in Italy. With this acquisition, the house has taken a huge step forward with an impressive portfolio.<\/p>\n
