The history of the Moutardier family in Le Breuil dates back centuries. In 1450, a member of the family was even mayor of Le Breuil. The family is therefore considered one of the oldest families of grape growers. Jean Moutardier's father started making and selling champagne himself in 1920, and his son Jean succeeded him in 1946. Jean bought several hectares of neglected plots and made them suitable for growing grapes.<\/p>\n
The champagne house is located over 100 km east of Paris in the village of Le Breuil, in the Surmelin valley. Here at this family business, a magnificent range of wines of true top quality and great personality is produced. The Jean Moutardier Champagne House has eighty percent of its vineyards planted with the Pinot Meunier grape. The Moutardier family now owns 18 hectares of vineyards, favorably situated on first-class south-facing slopes with the calcareous soil of the valley.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n You generally won't find a vintage year on champagne bottles because, during the blending of champagne, it is customary to combine grapes from different harvests and different years for the best result. Therefore, you will almost never see a vintage year on the bottle of the Moutardier family champagnes either.<\/p>\n Brut is a designation for a very dry champagne. It indicates the amount of sugar or cane sugar added to the champagne after the first fermentation. A Brut champagne has a dosage of up to 15 grams of sugar per liter. Brut Nature is a very dry champagne to which no sugar at all has been added. As more sugar is added, the champagne becomes sweeter. This can amount to more than 50 grams of sugar per liter. This champagne is given the designation Doux.<\/p>\n Champagne with mixed green and black olives is a deliciously refreshing combination. The bitter and salty taste of the olives beautifully complements the acidity of the champagne. A classic combination is champagne with berries. A combination of sweet and tart berries is a wonderful addition to a glass of champagne.
