Fortunately, we managed to get our hands on a few cases of the Cascina Ghercina Barolo from the beautiful 2016 vintage. Already a bit aged, but certainly still good for the next 10 years. Cedarwood, tobacco, cherry, dark chocolate, dried flowers, and a hint of burnt notes on the nose. Spicy opening, again lightly caramelized cherry; powerful, mouth-filling, young yet grainy tannins, long finish, very long aftertaste. A wine that will last for years and must be kept for true connoisseurs!<\/p>\n
And Cascina Ghercina is a truly top-tier house; all their wines offer excellent value for money. The estate is situated in the heart of the Langhe, by the tiny Lake Ghercina, which nevertheless provides sufficient cooling for the small vineyard. Cascina Ghercina was acquired by brothers Paolo and Guido Sartirano in 2002. They are part of the Sartirano family, which has been successfully producing wine since 1871 and owns various estates in Italy. With this acquisition, the house has taken a huge step forward with an impressive portfolio.<\/p>\n
