The Azienda Agricola Damilano Barolo Brunate is a true \u201csingle vineyard\u201d Barolo. In Barolo, there are five hills. Brunate is one of them. This hill is located near the village of La Morra. The Brunate vineyards cover a total of 25 hectares, and Damilano owns 0.63 hectares of this, situated in the best, fully south-facing location. Consequently, the wine has a small production volume and is therefore quite rare to obtain.<\/p>\n
The history of Azienda Agricola Damilano dates back to 1890 when the great-grandfather began making his own wine. Today, Paolo, Mario, and Guido, the 4th generation, lovingly hold the reins. Always looking ahead and not afraid of new developments, their sole aim is to further refine the quality of their wines.<\/p>\n
The vineyard deviates somewhat due to the low sand content, resulting in the young wine being slightly less exuberant in its aromas. However, other scents do come to the fore, such as dried fruit and spices like clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg. As the wine ages and ripens, the vineyard's terroir will reveal notes of tobacco, rose, licorice, and in great years, truffle and tar. The alkaline soil and high calcium content give the wine a distinct elegance. The wine is highly refined, possesses a beautiful balance, and tannins, making it certainly suitable for long-term aging.<\/p>\n

Damilano’s 2011 Barolo Cannubi does a great job of presenting the specific qualities that are most commonly associated with this historic vineyard site. The wine shows elegance, grace and a feminine frame that is toned, lean and muscular. The Cannubi vineyard has grown in fame partly due to the dedicated efforts of this hardworking estate. The 2011 vintage shows warm tones of leather and tobacco with candied fruit, licorice, cola and dark blackberry. Sweet spice and delicate cinnamon appear on the long finish.
