The wine has a sun-ripened style in which aromas of pear and apricot dominate. Despite the warm conditions in which the grapes ripened fully, this African Steen \u2013 as Chenin Blanc is called in South Africa \u2013 is not sweet. However, this dry wine does have a hint of honey on the finish, making it, when served chilled, an excellent accompaniment to heartier fish dishes, meal salads, asparagus, and gratinated shellfish. The wine is made to be enjoyed young.<\/p>\n<h2>Progressive Simonsig<\/h2>\n<p>Many people classify South Africa as a New World wine country. However, when you consider that brothers Fran\u00e7ois and Johan Malan represent the tenth generation of winemakers in the family, you would hardly dare call South Africa a New World wine country anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Simonsig is progressive in many respects. In the late 1980s, winemaker Frans Malan was one of the first to bottle his own wine and introduce new grape varieties and cellar techniques. Simonsig was also the first winery to market a sparkling wine, the South African answer to Champagne. Frans Malan rightly emerged as one of the defining pioneers in Stellenbosch prior to the major breakthrough in the 1990s. Simonsig benefits from the diversity of terroirs and microclimates of <a href=\"https:\/\/wijnclubamsterdam.nl\/en\/kenmerk\/regio\/zuid-afrika\/stellenbosch\/\">Stellenbosch<\/a>. Simonsig cultivates a range of grape varieties on more than 200 hectares. From these, Simonsig produces wonderfully beautiful blends and single-varietal wines such as this Chenin Blanc.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<h2>Terroir and winemaking<\/h2>\n<p>Maritime climate with relatively dry, warm summers and mild winters. The red-colored soil is rich in clay and minerals. The grapes are harvested with care, and fermented under controlled temperatures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<h2>Taste and food pairing<\/h2>\n<p>This extremely fruity wine is characterized by a sun-ripened style in which aromas of pear and apricot dominate.
