Etna Bianco by Tornatore is a masterpiece in itself. The volcanic terroir of Mount Etna, the altitude at which the grapes are grown, the manual harvesting, and the low-temperature fermentation are all elements that contribute to a magnificent wine. The Tornatore Etna Bianco is light straw yellow with intense green reflections. Pleasant hints of grapefruit, white peach, and herbs. On the palate and nose, a pleasant taste and freshness with extraordinary minerality derived from the volcanic terroir.<\/p>\n
The Tornatore wine estate was set up by Francesco Tornatore, who made his money in telecommunications. He created a beautiful wine estate in Castiglione di Sicilia only in the 21st century. This is located on the north side of Etna on the volcanic soil. However, Francesco's great-grandfather already planted vineyards in 1865, so Tornatore can not only boast more than 150 years of experience, but there are also some old vineyards. Tornatore only wants to work with indigenous indigenous grape varieties, so Nerrello Mascalese and Nerello Cappucio for red and Carricante for white, including a manual picking.<\/p>\n
Sicily is quite warm, but the Tornatore wines are grown at such high altitudes, between 600 and 1,000 meters, that the wine achieves a remarkable freshness and elegance. That is why the red wines are often called the Burgundies of Sicily. Nothing is left to chance in the cellar either in order to produce great wines. Wine with respect for the terroir: the wines are fermented in modern concrete vats and aged in large oak barrels. As a result, virtually no oak usage can be tasted in the wines. This wine has received quite a few accolades in recent years. This Etna Rosso has previously been awarded three glasses by Gambero Rosso and up to 95 points by James Suckling.<\/p>\n
Robert Parker:<\/strong> The Etna Bianco 2016 excels at capturing the bright and elegant side of the Carricante grape from Etna. The bouquet here displays citrus, lemon curd, and a hint of natural rubber that works wonders in terms of the wine's aromatic intensity. This is a very successful attempt by a new producer and relatively young vines. Dried herbs, saffron, aniseed, and Sicilian wild fennel appear on the finish.
