Antiche Terre<\/a> Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore is a quality wine at a favorable price. The Antiche Terre Ripasso differs from a regular Valpolicella in that it undergoes a second fermentation in late December\/early January. The wine is added to the skins of the Amarone grapes that are still soaked in the Amarone wine. This gives the wine extra body and complexity. A deliciously full-bodied Ripasso. Very drinkable, with a very soft and round taste. On the nose, we detect aromas of cherries, a hint of dark chocolate, and some smokiness. The wine has extra body and character thanks to the Amarone grapes. This Ripasso pairs well with grilled steaks, gourmet sausages, hamburgers, and pasta with chorizo.<\/p>\nAntiche Terre<\/h3>\n
The Antiche Terre Venete estate was born from a friendship to create something from the Valpantena region that is less well-known than the neighboring Valpolicella. The soil is rich and fertile, with a vast valley of terraces. Production is substantial, with more than 1.6 million bottles of Amarone, Ripasso, and Valpolicella. Antiche Terre Venete is an ambassador of winemaking in terms of tradition and expertise.<\/p>\n
It always takes a bit of searching to find the estate. Whereas other larger wineries advertise locally with signs along roads and streets in villages, here you had to look closely. The drive there is partly unpaved, and the estate is situated on a secluded elevated plateau. We were warmly welcomed by Giorgia and her brother. We saw a striking, modern, and new building with a businesslike and professional office and an elevator to the wine cellar. As always, it was wonderful to see how wine is produced, the stainless steel tanks and the oak barrels, and of course, the story itself. Large-scale production, but with a clear focus on quality. Marketing and sales are outsourced, allowing them to focus entirely on making wine.
