A sultry seductive wine with a full soft taste. This is what characterizes the Conte di Campiano Primitivo di Manduria. But what a party this is! This starts with the smell: lots of ripe red fruit, such as blackberries and cherries, but the wine also has something spicy in the nose. A sultry color is dark ruby red. In the glass you can see how concentrated the wine is. Take a sip of this wine and you will taste the sun-drenched red fruit of a typical southern Italian Primitivo: fruity, soft tannins and full and powerful in taste. A beautiful harmonious wine with an intense aftertaste.

You can combine this Primitivo di Manduria nicely with spicy pastas and red meat. On a cheese board it is an excellent combination with aged and blue cheeses.

Family business

Conte di Campiano was founded in 1930 and is still family-owned under the leadership of oenologist Paolo Contri. The hand-picked grapes come from near Taranto and Brindisi, Puglia. They use heavy wine bottles to show that this is a quality wine.

Authenticity. The Primitivo di Manduria

The Primitivo di Manduria comes from Puglia, the heel of Italy. The wine is made from one of the most famous local grapes from this region, the Primitivo. This region is called Manduria and has had its own quality mark for guaranteed origin since 1974, DOP Primitivo di Manduria (Protected Designation of Origin). It is an authentic wine with its own character. The wine comes from the municipality of Manduria in the Taranto region of the same name. The region is located close to the Gulf of Terente, which is a northern part of the Ionian Sea. This wave provides a wonderfully cooling breeze, which is very beneficial for the development of the Primitivo grapes in Manduria.

If you’re looking for a richer, fuller red with an abundance of weight, look to Puglian Primitivo. Primitivo tastes like dark fruit such as fresh figs, blueberries and baked blackberries. It also has a distinct dried fruit-leather character. The word Primitivo does not mean primitive in Italian, but actually means early ripening as these grapes accumulate a lot of sugar early in the season. Due to early ripening, the resulting wines are large, lush and full of fruit. The fascinating thing about Primitivo, however, is that the grape bunches sometimes ripen unevenly, so that the green grapes are harvested together with the ripe ones.
