• Lagar de Baixo Barraida Tinto: For lovers of a wine that is somewhat lower in alcohol but still want to enjoy full aromas, this wine is the perfect candidate. This elegant red wine is made from the local grape of Barraida, Baga. A light red color in the glass, but intense in smell and taste! Fresh juicy cherries are combined with powerful, earthy notes. In the young years there are still many pleasant acids in the wine, and somewhat stiffer tannins. As the wine ages, and it can do that very well, the wine becomes softer and earthier. Delicious with duck, well-filled pasta or sheep’s cheese.
• Niepoort Vinhos Vertente Tinto: The winner of the Perswijn Wine Competition for best red wine in the €20-€30 category! This red wine is a blend of the three local grapes that also form the basis for Port: Tinta Roriz, Tourica Franca and Touriga Nacional. This wine also comes from the same region; around the Duoro River. Characteristic of this wine is the aroma concentration and notes of fresh fruit in combination with great elegance, for which Niepoort is known. Deep red in color, fresh forest fruits, dark chocolate and fresh acidity. The long wood maturation gives this wine an exciting smoky edge with fine spiciness. Delicious to drink now, but this wine can also mature further in the cellar. Serve it with a piece of baked Iberico and the evening can’t go wrong!
