The Sessantasei is made from vines from 1966. Quality also comes with age

These Primitivo vines are already 54 years old. A low return but the best quality. The deep roots give an extra dimension to the picked grapes. The grapes are picked manually at their peak of ripeness, vinified and then the Conte di Campiano Primitivo di Manduria Riserva Sessantasei is aged in wooden barrels for 12 months. What a great full Riserva wine this is! A deep ruby-red color and in the nose we find an attractive combination of complex aromas with lots of dark fruit with scents of dried fruit, licorice and spices. Lots of fruit on the palate, ripe blackberries and plums, but also dates, figs and jam. You can even detect the smell of pipe tobacco and a hint of menthol. The fine tannins are well integrated into the soft and rich wine. Lots of body and thickness. Due to its southern origins, the ideal serving temperature is between 16 and 18 degrees. Higher gives too much impression of alcohol.

This Primitivo di Manduria Riserva tastes delicious with red meat, game and works fantastic with a BBQ. Lamb chops with Mediterranean herbs, roasted suckling pig, but also delicious with some spiced Merguez sausages. A great combination with smoked pulled pork with BBQ sauce.

Conte di Campiano

Long ago, a count from very distant lands traveled with his beautiful steed, in the land of Val Tramigna and went up to the plateau of Mount Crocetta. The count sat down on a stone to rest and by chance he could see that the landscape from that point was beautiful. Daylight caressed the hills, like the profile of a castle. The steep roofs of small houses turned dark, the white paths and the cultivated land and this image spread in the gentle wind to reach the sky. The soft scent of the landscape and the sultry smell of must reached his nose. The peace that prevailed at that time advised him to live in that country. So it was that from that day on, for the people of the place, he became the Conte di Campiano….

A beautiful story, but in the meantime Conte di Campiano, founded in 1930, has grown into a significant player on the entire Italian wine market. Active in several wine regions. Conte di Campiano maintains tight control over the entire production cycle. The company attaches great importance to this strategy and has done well financially. Recognition for this strategy is clearly visible through the increasing number of prizes and awards they receive. The daily management is in the hands of Dr. Paolo Contri, a very skilled oenologist with an economic background.
