The grape in this wine is the Negroamaro and in Italian and consists of two words: negro means “dark color” and amaro means “bitter. And that is a particularly good description for this wine! In your glass you see a very intense dark, almost black color. This already gives the impression that this is a solid glass of wine. In the aroma of this I Muri Negroamaro there are impressions of candied, almost cooked dark fruit with a clear hint of amarene cherry and black currant. The mouthfeel is wonderfully creamy with relatively low acidity. However, the wine has few tannins, making it a smooth drinking wine. In the long finish you meet a distinct little earthy bitterness and that gives the wine just the kick it needs!
The I Muri Negroamaro comes from Puglia, a southern region in the heel of Italy. The Negroamaro grape, like the Primitivo, is a hugely popular grape from Puglia. The winemaker of I Muri is Vigneti del Salento, part of Farnese Vini group. This is a young company that has become very successful in a short time. Partly due to the use of low yields in the vineyard, and the dry and hot climate in Puglia ensure a good concentration of wine in your glass here.
This wine pairs wonderfully with hot game stews such as a venison or hare stew. You can also serve this wine excellently with barbecue or with slightly sweeter soy marinades.
I Muri Negroamaro Vigneti del Salento Puglia is one of the favorite red wines at Wine Club Amsterdam.
