Liquid gold in your glass

In our assortment we have the red Neropasso of the Biscardo family and with the appassimento method they make class wines that appeal to a lot of people. The good news is that with the same method they also make delicious white wine: the Oropasso. A delicate wine with floral character and nice and fresh citrus and ripe yellow fruit. It looks just like liquid gold in your glass! The Biscardo family has more than 150 years of winemaking experience with which it has more than earned its “roots” in wine. Their wines are known for their delicious drinkability and have an excellent price/quality ratio. So that’s a lot of taste and a lot of wine for this price.

Appassimento method

The white Oropasso wine comes from just outside the Soave region (Veneto) and is made from 40% Chardonnay and 60% Garganega grapes. Two grape varieties that do very well in this region. The vineyards for the Oropasso are located on slightly permeable soil, with a mixture of clay, sand and silt. As mentioned, the white wine -as well as the red Neropasso- uses the method of “appassimento.

Appassimento is a manual and intensive process. A little explanation. One uses the thinnest bunches where the grapes are not too close together so that the air can circulate well around them. Otherwise, rot develops and that is not the intention. The grapes are put to dry in perforated crates in the ‘fruttaio’ (a large ventilated room). The drying process takes several months until the grapes have lost enough moisture and the aromas in the grapes are super concentrated.

The grapes are pressed and subsequent fermentation takes 15 days in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 13-14°C. The wine remains in steel tanks for at least another 5 months resting on its yeast (lie). This creates a fuller flavor and a bit more complexity.

Oropasso Biscardo taste and wine-food

The Oropasso wine is sunny golden yellow in color with a green sheen. In the nose, you immediately smell delicate aromas of floral notes, with nice amounts of fresh citrus and ripe yellow fruit. On the palate fresh and mineral, very well structured and balanced. A lick of vanilla in the long balanced finish.

The Oropasso Biscardo Veneto is a wine that will not get bored easily. Because of its freshness, the wine is excellent with risotto with shrimp and some lemon zest, pasta dishes, tasty vegetable and fish soups, fish, shellfish, white meat. Also very tasty with a cheese board with (Italian) cheeses.
