A wonderfully smooth wood-matured Barbera from Piedmont

The red wine La Luna e i Falo Barbera d’Asti Superiore is a delicious fruit bomb. Black cherries, berries and blackberries, but also some vanilla and chocolate in the scent. Wines from Piedmont can sometimes be a bit stiff. The makers of this wine have ensured that this wine is nice and smooth and fruity, partly due to the wood maturation. An elegant and seductive wine from Piedmont with a clear character of its own due to the soft tannins and well-balanced acids, giving the wine a nice firmness and freshness.

Tasting note La Luna e i Falo Barbera d’Asti Superiore

The color of the wine is garnet red, the scent is intense and complex. A nice balance between dark red fruit, violets, licorice and vanilla due to the wood maturation. On the palate, this Barbera d’Asti is nice and juicy and pleasant. The fruit and vanilla are reflected in the taste. The aftertaste is long. A delicious wine with a refined complexity in smell and taste.

The wine is made by the blue grape Barbera. In addition to the Nebbiolo grape, it is one of the best-known and most planted grape varieties in Piedmont. The wine has a beautiful name: La Luna E I Falo: The moon and the bonfire is a reference to a 1950 book by Italian writer Cesare Pavese.

Made with attention and love

The wine is made by Terredavino – Viti Colte. They choose quality over quantity. The vineyards have a low yield of high quality. Very important for a good barbera! To achieve the best possible balance between structure and complexity, the grapes for La luna e i Falo are taken from different vineyards. After traditional vinification, the wine matures for another 12 months in small oak barrels, 1/3 of which are new. This gives the wine a layered depth and character. This creates a very nuanced Barbera with class and expressiveness.

Try drinking this wine with beef medallions with a morel sauce!
