As they put it themselves at Misty Cove, this Misty Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc is an “SB without BS”. Loosely translated: A Sauvignon Blanc without the fuss. Burstingly aromatic, as you would expect from a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, with notes of gooseberries, freshly cut grass, pineapple, and passion fruit. It is the ideal accompaniment to seafood, asparagus, or simply as a delicious aperitif. Drink the wine young to fully enjoy the fresh fruit flavors and cellar it for a maximum of 3 years after the vintage.
Tasting note Misty Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc
In the glass, the wine is light yellow with green reflections. The pure aromas burst out of the glass. Fresh grass, gooseberries, lime, lemon leaf, melon, pineapple, and ripe passion fruit. Above all, fresh with green notes. On the palate, the aroma explosion continues. Full-bodied, fresh, and slightly acidic. A wonderfully long finish. Pair this Sauvignon Blanc with tuna tartare, sushi, and other seafood. This wine also comes into its own perfectly with salads, chicken dishes, and asparagus.
Vinification
The grapes from this Misty Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc grow on the Wairau and Waihopai vineyards in Marlborough, New Zealand. Here, the ideal climate prevails for Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The grapes are harvested at night and subsequently fermented at cold temperatures. This preserves as many fresh aromas as possible. The wine is bottled early and is made to be drunk young.
Misty Cove
Misty Cove is a relatively young wine estate from Marlborough, New Zealand, run by Andrew Bailey and his Dutch wife Marieke. The Sauvignon Blanc is the flagship of this house. It reflects the purity and essence of the terroir. They have since ventured into multiple varieties with the same conviction and have won numerous awards. Pure wine in taste and production.
