Not too sweet, but definitely a treat

Chateau Rieussec, along with Chateau d’Yquem, is the absolute pinnacle among dessert wines. This Carmes de Rieussec Sauternes is a delicious dessert wine made primarily from Sémillon, complemented by Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. A typical blend for Sauternes. Aromas of tropical fruit, flowers, and vanilla fill the nose. The taste is full, round, and deliciously sweet. Honey, roasted nuts, and a hint of caramel. Naturally, the perfect finish to any dinner, whether with something sweet or cheese, but also delicious with a piece of pan-fried duck liver!

Tasting note Carmes de Rieussec Sauternes

In the glass, Carmes de Rieussec is clear and light gold in color. Notes of white flowers combine beautifully with sweet tropical fruit of mango, peach, pineapple, and pear. On the palate, despite the distinct sweetness, the wine remains delightfully fresh. Very well balanced! Notes of honey, roasted nuts, and a hint of caramel in the finish. Ultimate with blue cheese, stewed apple with port syrup, or a sweet tart with fresh fruit. Traditionally also always a success with foie gras.

    Vinification

As the name suggests, this Sauternes comes from the vineyards surrounding the town of Fargues-en-Sauternes in the French Bordeaux, bordering the vineyards of Chateau d’Yquem. The soil here consists of gravelly sandy-clay soil. This Carmes de Rieussec consists of 90% Sémillon, 7% of Sauvignon Blanc and 3% MuscadelleAll grapes have been treated with noble rot (Botrytis cinera). The harvesting of the grapes takes place over a period of 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the progression of the botrytis. The grapes are very strictly selected, and production is low and highly dependent on Mother Nature. After pressing and fermentation, the wine ages for 18 months in new oak barrels.

    Château Rieussec

Château de Rieussec traces its origins back to the beginning of the 18th century and has been producing wines of outstanding quality ever since. In 1855, the house earned the classification Premier Grand Cru Classé Sauternes et Barsac. Late 19th In the 18th century, the estate was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild, known for Lafite. From this moment on, the selection of the grapes became even stricter, and the use of oak barrels during fermentation began. Château Rieussec is now one of the largest properties in Sauternes and Barsac.
