The Castel Firmian Sauvignon surprises us immediately. Castel Firmian Sauvignon Blanc comes from the north of Italy, from the Trentino – Alto Adige region. It is a fantastic product from the MezzaCorona cooperative. Actually, in Trentino we are mainly familiar with white wines made from Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay, but we are seeing more and more Sauvignon Blanc coming from this region as well. The Castel Firmian Sauvignon has a beautiful green-white color, and on the nose we immediately recognize the typical aromas of a Sauvignon Blanc. Pleasantly grassy, lots of citrus like lime and grapefruit, gooseberry, green herbs, and also some exotic fruit like passion fruit burst out of the glass and shoot into your nose like a rocket. A delicious, juicy, fresh, dry white wine that is well-balanced.
Thirst-quenching and ideal on a busy terrace, on a boat, or for drinks with friends. This Castel Firmain Sauvignon Blanc is a fine wine to drink on its own, without food. Naturally, it also pairs perfectly with all kinds of food, such as a fresh watermelon salad with mint and feta, or light seafood bites like grilled prawns. But surprisingly, it also goes well with richer dishes, where the wine cuts through them beautifully, such as grilled fish, white meat, or polenta. This wine also pairs excellently as the quintessential asparagus wine.
Castel Firmian is part of the larger Mezzacorona. Mezzacorona is the market leader in the North Italian region. Trentino (Alto Adige). This wine cooperative has existed since 1904 and is one of the very first cooperatives in Italy. Today, the name MezzaCorona represents a group of wine companies stretching from the far north to the deep south of Italy. MezzaCorona controls approximately 2,400 hectares of vineyards there and in the adjacent Alto Adige. Characteristic of the region is a considerably varied planting, with the most famous grape being the immensely popular Pinot Grigio. Naturally, MezzaCorona's range includes a number of different styles of Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay, and in terms of reds, it primarily features special regional specialties such as Lagrein and Teroldego Rotaliano.
The Castel Firmian Sauvignon Blanc is a wine with an enveloping character that, in balance between the aromas and their intensity, tells a story about the connection to the territory, love of tradition, and the experience of the people of the land. The rest of their portfolio also consists entirely of fragrant and elegant wines. Their aromas and scents reflect this land where the grapes grow naturally, cared for by expert hands.
