The famous winemaker Tornatore grows his vines on the volcano Mount Etna. And high on the still active volcano Etna, Tornatore creates stunningly beautiful wines. We tasted some of his wines and were very impressed with a fantastic combination of fresh fruit aromas on a structure of volcanic minerality. Taste it yourself and you won't want anything else! The Tornatore Etna Bianco Pietrarizzo has an intense, straw-yellow color with green reflections. The nose is expressive and combines notes of exotic fruit, grapefruit and a light spiciness and smokiness from the maturation on its yeast. The taste is full and powerful, but not tiring due to the presence of a clear mineral note. The aftertaste is long and leaves a slight sweet impression.

    Tornatore Wine Estate

The Tornatore wine estate was set up by Francesco Tornatore, who made his money in telecommunications. He created a beautiful wine estate in Castiglione di Sicilia only in the 21st century. This is located on the north side of Etna on the volcanic soil. However, Francesco's great-grandfather already planted vineyards in 1865, so Tornatore can not only boast more than 150 years of experience, but there are also some old vineyards. Tornatore only wants to work with indigenous indigenous grape varieties, so Nerrello Mascalese and Nerello Cappucio for red and Carricante for white, including a manual picking.

Sicily is quite warm, but the Tornatore wines are grown at such high altitudes, between 600 and 1,000 meters, that the wine achieves a remarkable freshness and elegance. That is why the red wines are often called the Burgundies of Sicily. Nothing is left to chance in the cellar either in order to produce great wines. Wine with respect for the terroir: the wines are fermented in modern concrete vats and aged in large oak barrels. As a result, virtually no oak usage can be tasted in the wines. All in all, this yields very precise, elegant, fresh, and easy-drinking wines that are, moreover—by Etna standards—very pleasantly priced.

    Awards

Robert Parker The Etna Bianco Pietrarizzo 2016 is a cru from vineyards with a distinct degree of volcanic ash and salty mineral on the bouquet. The wine also offered more substantial aromas of citrus, honeydew melon, and white almond. It shows good integration and structure. A bright, zesty, and refreshing white wine that pairs well with seafood and sweet fish dishes such as crab cakes or prawns. 91 pts

Gambero Rosso about the Tornatore – Etna Bianco Pietrarizzo 2016: 2 small glasses

James Suckling: TORNATORE ETNA BIANCO PIETRARIZZO 2016 Sliced pear and apple aromas with hits of lemon. Some praline. Full body and fresh fruit. Flavorful finish. Drink now. 93 pts
