A textbook example from the Moselle

The Van Volxem Riesling trocken is a classic example of Riesling from the Mosel. Effervescent, seductive, and refreshing! The beautiful mineral notes make it an excellent accompaniment to fish and shellfish. A tropical touch gives the wine a sultry edge, making it a delicious wine for a warm summer day, but also in combination with Asian dishes.

    Tasting note Van Volxem Riesling

In the glass, the wine is a beautiful white-yellow color. The aromas burst out of the glass! The typical petrol note kicks off the aromatic feast and quickly gives way to tropical fruit tones. Juicy peach, apricots, quince, and a hint of honey. On the palate, the wine is elegant and mineral with a fresh lime acidity. Here, too, the peach comes to the fore, bringing the Riesling into beautiful balance. Ready to drink young but can certainly age in the bottle for several years.

    Vinification

The Riesling grapes grow in the famous vineyards on the Saar tributary in the German MoselleThe soil here consists of grey slate, which imparts the characteristic minerality to the wine. Additionally, phylloxera cannot survive in this soil, allowing the vines to age healthily. The vines in this vineyard are as much as 30 years old, which benefits the quality of the grapes and, consequently, the wine. The harvest is carried out manually and is highly selective. The pickers enter the vineyards somewhat later in the season to harvest the grapes so that they reach optimal ripeness. Several picking sessions are required to harvest the ripe grapes at the right moment. After the harvest, the grapes ferment spontaneously. The wine then ages for 5 months in stainless steel tanks to ensure freshness.

    Van Volxem

Wijndomein Van Volxem is located in historic Wiltingen on the Saar, a tributary of the Mosel. With a rich history dating back to the 18th century, this former monastery winery has extensive vineyards in prime locations such as Scharzhofberger, Kupp and Klosterberg. In 2003, the prestigious Kanzemer Altenberg was added to the range, which further enriched the diversity. Under the leadership of Roman Niewodniczanski, a well-known name within the Bittburger family, the grapes are harvested with dedication. With an average age of the vines and striking old vines in the steep Gottesfuss, Van Volxem embodies the unique terroir of the Saar. Discover the perfect combination of climate, soil and craftsmanship at Van Volxem, a valuable player in the enchanting Mosel wine region.
