Château Gazin owns one of the largest vineyards in Pomerol and even sold a portion of its vineyard to the world-famous Château Petrus in the 1970s! The vineyards of both Châteaux border each other, and that pretty much says it all. Intense in flavor, with powerful tannins and beautiful elegance. Made primarily from Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, it offers a delicious taste of dark fruit, chocolate, and fresh black pepper. A valuable addition to the wine cellar!
In the glass, the wine is deep ruby red, with a purple tinge in its youth. Dark aromas rise from the glass: blackcurrants, ripe cherries, plums, walnuts, dark chocolate, and a spicy note of black pepper, coffee, and licorice. On the palate, the wine is powerful and full-bodied with ripe tannins and a velvety taste. Luscious on the palate with good grip and a savory finish. Pair this wine with red meat, grilled dishes, or mature cheeses. Best enjoyed from about 6 years after the vintage and can certainly be aged for 20 years.
The grapes for this Château Gazin Pomerol grow on the old vines of the vineyards in Pomerol. The soil here is full of pebbles, clay, and the typical sublayer of ‘crasse de fer’. This is a fossilized sublayer of soft, iron-rich sandstone that lends the wine beautiful minerality and elegance. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand. After the harvest, the grapes are carefully sorted and destemmed. Traditional vinification follows with fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Subsequently, the wine ages for 18 months in oak barrels, some of which are new. This ensures an elegant structure and complex aromas. Powerful and elegant.
Château Gazin is a renowned winery in Pomerol, Bordeaux. With a history dating back to the 18th century, it is known for its quality wines, primarily from Merlot grapes, with additions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards are situated next to those of Château Petrus, allowing them to benefit from a prestigious terroir of clay and gravel. Château Gazin wines are appreciated for their refinement and aging potential and enjoy a strong reputation worldwide.
