This beautiful Fishwives Club Sauvignon Blanc with a hand-drawn label is surprisingly good! Intense aromas of fruit and wildflowers burst from the glass. Citrus, grapefruit, passion fruit, kiwi, mango, and even a hint of salinity are in the foreground. Then you notice that the typical boxwood, apple, grass, and peach are also present. The minerality is still clearly noticeable in the long finish. Due to its complexity, it certainly has an edge over similar SBs from South Africa. The price-quality ratio is therefore exceptionally well balanced. Great value for money!
As the label predicts, The Fishwives Club Sauvignon Blanc pairs very well with everything that comes from the sea… But even certainly without a culinary masterpiece, as a glass on its own, it tastes delicious!
The history of The Fishwives Club is a remarkable one. The story begins a few years ago when owner and advertising executive Patrick Robertson lost his business, partner, and home at the age of 43. With the little money he had left, he left Johannesburg and returned to live in his native village of Hout Bay, near Cape Town. Desperate, Patrick visited several fortune tellers who, independently of one another, told him the same thing: it had something to do with the sea. He met two sisters who possessed tremendous artistic talent. And suddenly, all the wheels started turning again… The Fishwives Club was born. A wild and artistic label sets the tone.
The grapes are personally selected by award-winning winemaker, none other than Theunis Van Zijl, who sources them from both his own estate and the abundant Cape regions—internationally known for producing the best that their specific cultivars have to offer. This is what they call: a boutique wine estate. The winemakers' goal: to make haute couture wine at affordable prices. All the wines they produce must possess the typical expression of the grape.
