Black cherries, blackberries, and tobacco immediately jump into your nose. This is exactly what is meant by a Super-Tuscan. The Biserno Campo di Sasso Insoglio del Cinghiale comes from the west of Tuscany, vlak bij de Middellandse Zee. Deze blend bestaat voornamelijk uit Syrah and Merlot, supplemented with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot – a textbook example of modern viticulture in Tuscany. And yes, “Insoglio del Cinghiale” literally means ‘naughty wild boar’ – that immediately explains the label.
Thanks to its location close to the sea, the grapes benefit from a unique microclimate, allowing them to develop optimally. This is a wine that is both easy to drink and layered – ideal for those wishing to get acquainted with the world of Super Tuscans. Harold Hamersma described it as “an Italian for Bordeaux lovers” and awarded it a 9.
On the palate, a story full of red and black fruit unfolds. Cherries and blackberries dominate, followed by subtle notes of tobacco and dried herbs. The tannins are supple and beautifully integrated, resulting in a soft and elegant finish. This wine is perfectly balanced – not too heavy, but certainly not too light. You taste the warmth of the Tuscan sun, combined with the fresh influence of the sea breeze.
The Mediterranean vegetation – the maquis – can be tasted in hints of myrtle and rosemary. A pinch of pepper and roasted accents complete the flavour profile. The Insoglio del Cinghiale offers pleasant drinkability, while maintaining a beautiful length. Excellent to pair with:

The grapes for this wine come from the Campo di Sasso estate, located close to the Mediterranean Sea. The 56 hectares of sandy soils are particularly suitable for grapes such as Syrah. The slightly higher temperatures in this part of Tuscany ensure optimal ripening. Thanks to the specific combination of soil and climate, this area clearly distinguishes itself from the Bolgheri region, which is known for its stony soils.
After the harvest, the grapes are first destemmed, after which fermentation takes place for 2 to 3 weeks at 28 degrees. Subsequently, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. About 40% of the wine then ages for four months in used French oak barrels. This blend of modern techniques and respect for the terroir results in a wine that is highly regarded internationally. James Suckling awarded 93 points, and Falstaff achieved the same score.
