Raspberry, cherry, and a hint of licorice — this is how the aroma of the Damilano Barolo del Comune di Serralungad’Alba begins: a powerful, elegant Barolo from the heart of Piedmont. This wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes in the commune of Serralungad’Alba, in the Langhe region, and is known for its firm structure and great aging potential. The light color of this Barolo gives no indication of the taste and aroma. These are powerful and complex. Upon serving, you immediately experience how intense the aroma and taste are: ripe forest fruits, tobacco, a light touch of mint, and elegant tannins.
Grape: Nebbiolo 100%
Upon pouring, a full nose is released with red berries, slightly weathered cherries, and violets, followed by graphite and a subtle menthol note. On the palate, the wine is dry, powerful, and complex; it displays firm yet refined tannins, fresh acidity, and a long finish with spices and earthy notes. Thanks to this combination, it is perfectly suited for special occasions such as birthdays or festive dinners. It pairs particularly well with classic Italian dishes such as truffle tajarin, ossobuco, or a mature Pecorino.
Food pairing suggestions:
The wine comes from Cantine Damilano, a historic Piedmont house located in Barolo and active since 1890. The commune of Serralunga d’Alba lies on sandy and clay-rich soil (Lequio formation: 25% sand, 52% loam, 23% clay), which forces the Nebbiolo grape to root deeply and thus contributes to powerful wines with structure. The vinification of this Barolo involves controlled temperature fermentation for 20 days, followed by 24 months of aging in large wooden barrels and then 12 months of bottle aging. Thanks to the favorable terroir and the extended maturation, this Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba is able to develop over the years — it is not a wine for immediate consumption (although young enjoyment is certainly possible), but one that is worth aging. For those interested in a different style within the same house, there is the Damilano Barolo Lecinquevigne Definitely worth discovering; this one can also be found in the assortment.
