Disznókő Tokaji Dry Furmint – fresh, mineral and full of character

In the far northeast of Hungary lies Tokaj, a world-renowned wine region. Here, not only legendary sweet wines are produced, but also an increasing number of high-quality dry wines from the Furmint grape. Disznókő Tokaji Dry Furmint is an excellent example of this: a fresh, crisp, and layered white wine with a clear origin.

The Disznókő vineyards are situated on rolling slopes with volcanic soils, which provide minerality and tension in the wine. The climate is continental, with warm summers and cool nights, which helps the grapes develop aromas while preserving acidity. The grapes are carefully harvested and fermented in stainless steel tanks, followed by aging on the fine lees. As a result, the wine remains pure and fresh, with just a little extra texture and depth.

Tasting note: crisp fruit and fresh minerality

In the glass, the wine is clear and light straw-yellow in color. The aroma is fresh and refined, with notes of citrus, green and ripe apple, pear, and white blossoms. Beneath this lies a subtle mineral tone typical of Furmint from volcanic soil.

On the palate, the wine is lively and crisp, with juicy white fruit, fresh acidity, and a slightly salty undertone. The structure is slender but not thin, thanks to aging on the lees which provides a soft roundness. The finish is clean, refreshing, and lingers remarkably long, with a combination of citrus and minerality.

This style makes Tokaji Dry Furmint appealing to lovers of fresh, gastronomic white wines with tension and precision.

Furmint: the versatile grape of Tokaj

Furmint is the most important grape of Tokaj and forms the basis of both the famous sweet Tokaji Aszú wines and modern dry variants. In a dry style, Furmint shows a very different profile:

    • high natural acids
    • pronounced minerality
    • good ripening capacity

As a result, Furmint is often compared to grapes such as Riesling or Chenin Blanc, but with a distinct character of its own. More and more wine lovers are discovering that Tokaj can be not only sweet, but also excellently dry.

Food pairing Disznókő Tokaji Dry Furmint: ideal for fresh and refined dishes

Thanks to its freshness and structure, Disznókő Tokaji Dry Furmint is very versatile at the table. Great pairings include:

    • ceviche and fish tartare
    • sushi and sashimi
    • grilled white fish or shellfish
    • salads with goat cheese or citrus
    • light Asian dishes with ginger and lime
    • This wine is also very suitable as an aperitif, especially for those who enjoy a fresh and not overly aromatic style.

    Disznókő – leading in Tokaji

Disznókő is one of the most respected producers of Tokaj and combines traditional knowledge with modern winemaking techniques. The estate possesses contiguous vineyards of high quality and focuses strongly on the character of the terroir and the grape. Although the house is known worldwide for its sweet Tokaji wines, dry Furmint plays an increasingly important role in the range.

As people in Tokaj have been saying for centuries: “The wine of kings and the king of wines.”
With this dry Furmint, Disznókő shows that this reputation also applies to fresh, elegant white wines.
