Barbaresco is called the queen of wines. From the same region in Piedmont also comes the king of wines: Barolo. Cascina Ghercina Barbaresco is an elegant Italian lady of good lineage who feels at home on many occasions. A robust wine, full of fruit, wood, and spices, with an excellent price-quality ratio.  Elegant on the nose with balsamic notes. A slightly earthy nose, floral, lots of ripe red fruit and quite a bit of spiciness. Cascina Ghercina Barbaresco DOCG is a A beautiful, warm, full-bodied wine with a lovely structure, silky tannins, and a long finish. This Barbaresco pairs excellently with pheasant, pigeon, turkey, white meat, and mature cheeses.

Barbaresco, a top wine from Piedmont

Cascina Ghercina founded in 1871, a clear mission has been prioritized across the various generations: exclusively homegrown produce and quality first. In 2002, the family purchased an additional 8 hectares of vineyards located on south-westerly slopes in the heart of the Barolo region. Situated 360 meters above sea level, the flow of the Ghercina river between the vineyards provides an exclusive microclimate. Furthermore, they constructed a 5,000 m² wine cellar at that time, which is partially underground. This increased the storage capacity to over 15,000 hectoliters. The estate also has vineyards in Langhe, Alba, Roero, Asti, Monferrato, and Gavi.

    Vineyard and vinification

The wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. The vines are planted on a soil consisting mainly of rock, marl, and limestone with a sandy subsoil. The vineyards are located in four villages of Barbaresco. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand, and the grapes are subject to a strict selection procedure. The grapes are destemmed and crushed, and then undergo fermentation under controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. Skin maceration takes place for 12 days with daily pumping over of the must. After malolactic fermentation, aging takes place for 18 months in large Slavonian barrels.
