A classic Cru Bourgeois with great development potential.

First, let the wine rest in the decanter for an hour to aerate and allow it to open up. Deep garnet-purple in color, Château La Tour de By then displays cedar-like aromas that subsequently give way to various layers of red and black currants, mulberry, as well as some minty notes. Full-bodied and abundant black fruit on the palate. The wine has a firm, grainy structure and a beautiful freshness that carries the crisp fruit to a long finish. World-renowned wine critic Robert Parker awarded this delicious, high-class Bordeaux 89 points. A complex wine that should not be missing from your cellar. We consider it excellent value for money! Guaranteed to provide many years of drinking pleasure at the table for you and your guests.

    Chateau La Tour de By

At the very head of the region, in the ‘Médoc à l’Extrême’, lies Chateau La Tour de By. The country house was built in 1876, and the wine falls under the AOC Médoc. It is a truly unique place: situated on a fifteen-meter-high slope in the landscape, two hundred meters from the mouth of the Gironde, which sparkles behind the trees in the late summer light during our visit. It is the river mouth that you see, but the nearby ocean is clearly palpable. As the Atlantic can do, skies and light change rapidly from threatening clouds to clear blue, and then again to powdery dreaminess.

Chateau La Tour de By was owned by a merchant from Paris at the beginning of the last century. When Marc Pagès and partners purchased the domain, it was virtually abandoned. They breathed new life into the vineyards, and Marc predicted that "whoever saw the vineyard and tasted the wine on the spot would often become not only a customer, but also a friend" of the family. This circle of friends continues to grow.

    History

The family has come a long way. Marc Pagès met Professor Emile Peynaud in 1966 and became friends with him. According to Marc, Peynaud was ‘the best oenologist in the world’. This collaboration and friendship has certainly paid off for the company. La Tour de By is one of the largest properties in the Médoc: their wine estate covers 110 hectares, with 32 employees. The family has dedicated itself to environmentally responsible pest control. They work as organically as possible here. Two years ago, the cousins had a sixty-meter-long storage facility built, partially underground to save energy, with space for a million bottles. For their wines, they typically use 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. More than half is bought by private individuals, 10% by local wine shops and restaurateurs. 30% is for export. China is a major customer. Château la Tour de By is a must for every wine lover. We are pleased to be able to offer it.
