Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon from Jerry Lohr Winery is a deep, dark wine with aromas of black cherries, plums, and blueberries, as well as hazelnut, dark chocolate, and toast. Firm tannins, but also plenty of fruit, spices, and a long finish on the palate. A favorite with pasta dishes, grilled portobello mushrooms or beef tenderloin, and with spicy, hard cheeses.
Jerry Lohr grew up on a farm in North Dakota. After his education, he established his own company that traded very successfully in agricultural land. In the late 1960s, Jerry decided to take on a new challenge: he would delve into viticulture. Lohr focused on Monterey and purchased his first vineyards in Arroyo Seco in 1972. This was followed in 1974 by the construction of his own winery in San Jose.
He reached a third milestone in 1988. In that year, Lohr expanded his vineyard area by another 800 hectares in Paso Robles, also in Monterey. In this way, the company can meet its own fruit needs.
J. Lohr is a typical example of a Californian winemaker: with a keen eye for market needs and, at the same time, the ambition to be the best. This means, among other things, that experiments with new techniques are carried out incessantly. A striking example of this is the years of refining the house's top Chardonnay, whose style was transformed from Californian to Burgundian. For another, more ‘basic’ Chardonnay, the search was on for yeast cultures that make the wine extra floral and fruity.
J. Lohr's product range currently consists of various wine series, from accessible entry-level wines for the general public to exclusive single estate wines.
The vineyards are situated on the open coastline near Santa Barbara. It is very warm here during the day, but the surroundings cool down significantly at night. The soil is varied and includes gravelly clay, loam, and limestone, among other things. The grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks. Subsequently, the blend ages for approximately 12 months in American oak barriques.

The Seven Oaks vineyard in Paso Robles experiences extreme differences between day and night temperatures. The grapes ripen well due to the warm days, while the cooling at night ensures they retain sufficient freshness.
