Besides the ‘regular’ Primitivo this winery has now also released the Zolla Primitivo di Manduria Riserva. This wine has aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels. This adds extra complexity to the wine. The Zolla Primitivo di Manduria Riserva has an intense ruby red color with shades of violet. On the nose, intense, complex, fruity aromas emerge with hints of small red fruits, such as cherries and blackberries. Slightly sweet with notes of coffee, toffee, and chocolate. This wine has a velvety texture and is soft, warm, full-bodied, and has beautifully balanced tannins. A beautiful, harmonious wine with an intense finish. It pairs very well with local Italian dishes, but it also feels right at home with a traditional Dutch stamppot or, how about, a stew? Tip: try simmering an orange peel along with it; it really brings the wine to the dish! It also pairs well with aged and blue cheeses with various nuts, and raffia bread.!
Producer Zolla is a winery of Farnese Vini and is located in Puglia – the heel of Italy’s boot. This peninsula is an ancient wine-growing region dating back to the ancient Greeks. It is a very warm area that is cooled at night by sea breezes. Zolla works with smaller winegrowers who cultivate the vineyard according to Zolla’s guidelines and limit the yield of the vines. This results in higher quality. Commonly used grape varieties are Primitivo and NegroamaroThese are native variants that are common in Puglia.
At Zolla, they know how to make wine!
