Château Saint-Roch Chardonnay Limoux is indeed a Chardonnay without any frills. It is pure with a subtle hint of oak. The wine is ready to drink with sufficient nuances in the fruit and a grassy undertone. A very small touch of vanilla completes it. A beautifully rounded Chardonnay.
On the nose of the Château Saint-Roch Chardonnay Limoux, we discover yellow fruits and vanilla. On the palate, the vanilla returns along with stone fruit and a touch of minerality. Thanks to 8 months of oak aging, the concentration, freshness, and a healthy, recalcitrant bitterness are beautifully balanced. Great value for money.
Delicious with a piece of pan-fried halibut or with scallops and a lime beurre blanc.
The region around Limoux, a small town in the south of France, has been known since the 1980s as one of the few wine regions with Chardonnay from older vines. In the vineyards with mineral-rich soil, the Saint-Roch grapes thrive perfectly. The grapes are hand-picked and gently crushed. Only the best juice is selected and undergoes the first fermentation on its lees. Afterwards, the wine ages for a further 8 months in French oak. The wine has a sultry aroma of tropical fruit such as pineapple, ripe peach, and toasted bread. Intense in flavor with a mineral finish that gives it just that touch of crispness.
Chateau Saint Roch is situated near the Spanish border in the Southern French Pyrenees. The favorable climate in these somewhat higher vineyards ensures many hours of sunshine and a fresh breeze from the mountains that is perfect for planting grapes.
On the road connecting the city of Carcassonne to the Pyrenees lies the Pays de Limoux, home to one of the oldest vineyards in France and the birthplace of great wines and famous specialties, including Crémant de Limoux and Blanquette de Limoux, the very first sparkling wine in history (by their own account…).
