The Ca ‘Dei Frati Lugana Il Frati is a fantastic wine of very high quality with the DOC Lugana quality label. One of the better wines from the region Lombardy with many awards. The wine has some associations with white Burgundy, but with a distinct Italian touch. The wine is made from the Turbania grape; a local variant of the well-known Trebbiano grape.
Also try the Rosé van Frati!
The Ca ‘Dei Frati Lugana Il Frati has an exciting yellow color with a lot of sparkle. It might sound strange, but a sort of glow-in-the-dark green also seems to shine through. On the nose, you smell the complex scent of honey, vibrant white fruit, and flowers. Very fragrant for an Italian white wine!
The taste of this rich wine is round and smooth. The opening clearly features apricot, white fruit, and almond. A beautiful mid-palate and a surprisingly delicate acidity at the finish, which gives the wine a distinct kick. Surprising and beautiful balance. A fantastic wine! Ready to drink immediately, but also suitable for aging in your cellar for several years.
Ca ‘Dei Frati can be traced back to the year 1782, where a document refers to ‘a house with a wine cellar on the land of Sermion, bearing the name ‘house of the brothers’ (dei Frati). They own 20 hectares of vineyards there, featuring a wide variety of different terroirs. Specifically, there is a lot of loam with a high content of lime and mineral salts. Due to the presence of abundant gravel, the soil here enjoys good drainage. This ensures that the grapes can ripen optimally.
Also of great importance is the Pelér wind that blows across Lake Garda. This causes large temperature fluctuations over a short period, which in turn has a positive effect on the aroma development of the grape. Lake Garda, in turn, acts as a regulator against excessive differences between the various seasons. In short, a spot with a delightful Mediterranean microclimate.
The wine is fantastic with Risotto primavera or grilled vegetables.
