Not so long ago, the Arneis grape variety from the area near the town of Alba in Piedmont seemed almost extinct, but fortunately, a few Barolo producers saved the grape and replanted it. That was no easy task, especially when you know that the name Arneis means “little difficult one.” The name Roero (pronounced ro-ero) comes from the Roeri hills where the grape is planted. But the result is impressive…! Damn, that Vite Colte Roero Arneis Villata is delicious!
The color of the Vite Colte Roero Arneis Villata is intense and straw-yellow with green reflections. The bouquet offers hints of exotic fruit, ripe pear, apple blossom, and white plum. It is somewhat rich and generous on the palate with many aromas of white and yellow fruit (especially melon and apple) that are ripe yet sufficiently fresh. A touch of almond bitterness in the long finish. A fine wine to drink as an aperitif, but also with salads and lighter fish dishes. Try this wine with marinated salmon trout . It seems somewhat like a cross between a Sauvignon Blanc and the French Viognier grape. Fruity and soft at the same time. But, of course, in the Italian style!
The Arneis vineyards for this selection are cultivated in the heart of the Roero, to the left of the Tanaro River. Loose soils with a strong presence of silica and the unique microclimate give rise to fragrant and elegant wines.
The manual harvest is followed by a short cold maceration with gentle pressing. The subsequent fermentation in purity, which lasts approximately 10 days, is carried out at a controlled temperature of 16-18°C. The final important phase for the Vite Colte Roero Arneis Villata is a short period of refinement in the bottle to develop its structure and pleasant aromas.
The name Vite Colte stands for the art of cultivating the vine. A knowledge that arises from the dialogue between different worlds and generations: on the one hand, farming knowledge, experience, tradition, and the typical Piedmontese passion for meticulous work; on the other hand, research and scientific knowledge.
One hundred and eighty winegrowers participate in the Vite Colte project, cultivating three hundred hectares, some of which are in conversion to organic, the others under integrated management.
It has everything you need to produce excellent wines: a vast vineyard heritage, meaning you can select the best; motivated and experienced winemakers; modern winemaking systems, the technology needed to preserve and improve the quality of the grapes; a first-class technical team coordinated by Daniele Eberle in the vineyard and Bruno Cordero in the cellar. You can taste it all in the Vite Colte Roero Arneis Villata.
