The Cantine San Marzano 11 Filari Primitivo di Manduria Dolce Naturale is a subtle sweet red wine produced with grapes naturally dried in the vineyard. Primitivo grapes. An intense ruby red color with garnet hues; a persistent and complex nose with hints of overripe fruit reminiscent of cherry jam and dried figs, minerals, and a touch of spicy herbs and cocoa powder; light spicy notes; a sense of honey, balanced by a nice fresh acidity for tension. The wine has aged for 12 months in French oak barriques and then for another 6 months in the bottle. The wine is a dream with… Black Forest Cherry Cake! Limburg Cherry Pie and dark chocolate mousse! The San Marzano 11 Filari is also superb with aged cheese with an intense flavor. A wine for meditation and certainly an alternative to Port.
True to tradition, the drying of the grapes is meticulously monitored on just 11 rows of Primitivo vines, planted in their red, limestone soil.
With patience, one extracts precious drops of sweet nectar from the grapes to produce an inimitable wine, unplanned and unpredictable – like everything that is not always simply practical and normal. Preferably to be enjoyed when the evening calls for something special.
The motto here is… “The best grape is the one we have not yet harvested…”. That says it all, we think! A stone's throw from the Ionian Sea, Masseria Samia is a place of work and stories. As is often the case with a project of Cantine San Marzano, This masseria is a typical 16th-century farmhouse on the Ionian coast, which has been carefully and respectfully restored; it is a house open to our guests and friends, and the ideal place to tell our story through courses and to share knowledge about wine and cooking. A Mediterranean garden surrounded by silence, where paths crisscross through the trees, flowers, and herbs of the Mediterranean flora.
San Marzano is a small village in the center of the Primitivo di Manduria DOC region, a strip of land kissed by the two seas of Salento: the Ionian and the Adriatic Sea. In 1962, the DOC appellation did not yet exist, and Primitivo di Manduria was far from being a cult wine for wine lovers. Nevertheless, 19 winemakers came together to pursue a dream and founded Cantine San Marzano.
And last but not least: San Marzano is the place where we will share our idea of stories and beauty through wine. The San Marzano 11 Filari is a beautiful story with a very beautiful ending.
