The Damilano Barolo Cannubi Riservas possess a distinct elegance. The complex and mature bouquet has fully opened up after all these years of aging, and the beautiful complexity now comes fully into its own. Power and refinement in one. Standalone in its class and embodies everything the name Barolo stands for. This wine gift consists of three bottles:
1.Barolo Cannubi Riserva DOCG – 2009: “The Sage”
Structured, profound, strict
Tasting note:
A Barolo born from a sunny and complex year. The nose opens with notes of leather, roots, oriental spices, and wet earth. On the palate, it is imposing, with present but integrated tannins, a persistent mineral savoriness, and a long finish.
2.Barolo Cannubi Riserva DOCG – 2010: “The Poet”
Elegant, harmonious, expressive
Tasting note:
Represents one of the most expressive highlights of the Cannubi cru. Floral aromas of roses and violets. Balsamic notes are interwoven with liquorice, pencil shavings, and sweet spices. The palate is lively and refined, with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that supports longevity.
3. Barolo Cannubi Riserva DOCG – 2011: “The Rebel”
Sunny, enveloping, direct
Tasting note:
Reflects the warmest and most generous side of Cannubi, in a year marked by early ripening. On the nose, ripe red fruits, brandy cherries, hints of cocoa and sweet tobacco. On the palate, it is velvety, with soft tannins and a fruity energy that immediately captivates.
If there were a “Grand Cru” classification in the Barolo region, just like in Burgundy, the Cannubi vineyard would certainly be one. It is the most famous and well-known vineyard, already mentioned with accolades in the 17th century. The oldest surviving bottle of Cannubi dates back to 1752. The name Cannubi is therefore older in history than Barolo. The quality of the vineyard and its grapes is primarily due to the composition of the soil. The very high percentage of sand, as well as the potassium and magnesium elements present in the soil composition, ensures a more complex aromatic profile in the wine. Above all, a beautiful elegance. These natural characteristics therefore give the Azienda Agricola Damilano Barolo Cannubi its exclusive quality.
The Damilano family winery belongs to the absolute top in the Barolo wine region. The current winery dates back to 1935, but their vineyards on the Cannubi hill (the most prestigious wine hill within the Barolo commune) go back to 1752.
The history of this historic family winery began in 1890 when Giuseppe Borgogno, the great-grandfather of the current owners, began vinifying the grapes from his vineyards himself. Before that, they were always sold on.
Together with his son-in-law, Giacomo Damilano, he tended the vineyards and the vinification of the wines. This formed the foundation of Damilano and the excellent quality of their Italian wines.
