Chardonnay is, of course, known from many regions: Burgundy, South Africa, Chile. In fact, it comes from everywhere. But this is different! This Chardonnay is planted on the foothills of the Italian Alps at altitudes of up to 600 meters. This ensures intense aromatic development due to the large differences between day and night temperatures. Add to that the “craftsmanship” of Elena Walch and her team. A guarantee of a crystal-clear Chardonnay as pure as spring water (but with flavor). The Elena Walch Chardonnay is clear straw-yellow in color. A fruity bouquet of exotic fruit, nuts, ripe apples, and light floral aromas. The taste is elegant, well-balanced with fine acidity and a long finish.
This traditional wine from Trentino is excellent as an aperitif, a perfect accompaniment to light Mediterranean dishes, pasta dishes with shrimp and vegetables, and freshwater fish such as trout, pike stew, baked salmon, and risotto with perch. The ideal serving temperature is 8°C (so not too cold!) in a tall, tapered glass.
The territory on which the vineyards are situated is hilly and faces southeast on calcareous soils. A synergy of grapes from medium-altitude soils up to 600 m above sea level located in the southern part of South Tyrol. The harvest is done entirely by hand. Vinification ensures that the grapes are gently pressed and the must undergoes static clarification. Subsequently, it is fermented in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 20ºC. The wine then ages for several months on its lees in stainless steel containers.
Elena Walch ranks among the top wineries in Alto Adige. Together with her two daughters, Elena Walch runs the family business and produces quality wines that enjoy great international success. This is hardly surprising, as Elena Walch played a leading role in the quality revolution that Alto Adige has undergone in recent decades. However, it is not only the innovations in the vineyard and cellar that make her wines so exceptional. Her philosophy is also largely dedicated to the terroir and the idea that the specific characteristics of the soil, (micro)climate, and vineyard work must be fully expressed in every wine. Sustainability is also a key principle in all facets of wine production. The picturesque estates of Castel Ringberg and Kastelaz form the core of the vineyards, which cover a total of approximately 55 hectares. Elena Walch's wines are characterized by their modern, elegant, and refined style.
Elena Walch's white wines are the true driving force of the company. Elena Walch produces elegant white wines rich in aromas from grapes that have found their happy place in South Tyrol, such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay, and Gewürztraminer. The company has achieved international accolades. The winery is one of the best in South Tyrol. Elena Walch's production includes single-variety wines from grapes grown on the Castel Ringberg estate, overlooking Lake Caldaro, various wines resulting from the blending of their own vineyards, and the grand Cuvée line, born from the best selection of grapes during the harvest season.
Fresh and fruity white wines, which stand out for their character and personality, in turn make room for concentrated and soft red wines, obtained from Pinot Noir, Merlot, Schiava, and Lagrein.
