Refined white with a kind of Burgundy twist.

The Zenato Lugana San Benedetto Zenato is a very refined wine from Zenato, a significant quality winery from Veneto. In terms of grape planting, it was initially thought that this involved the Trebbiano grape. We also know this as one of the most grown and famous grapes in Italy. However, in Lugana on Lake Garda they called it the Turbania. At first they thought it was a mutated Trebbiano, but after recent research it turned out to be the Verdicchio grape. So something different again. This Turbania/Verdicchio (who cares, as long as it’s tasty!)  does produce a more interesting and tastier wine here. The wine has a pronounced, almost dusty aroma with lots of ripe white fruit such as pear and also some “smoky” aromas. The mouthfeel is very soft and pleasant. The wine sometimes seems to have something of a white Burgundy. Also lots of ripe fruit in the opening with a little sourness and bitterness in the aftertaste. That gives the wine a good balance.

This wine is a very good partner for Risi é Bisi, Risotto with green asparagus. Grilled Vegetables with a tasty large shrimp from the Grill. Can also be enjoyed in advance with the Anti Pasti!

Zenato

The company was founded in 1960 when Sergio Zenato, driven and ambitious, started experimenting with new techniques in the field of wine production. He invested in native vines to obtain wines of the highest quality. Today, his wife Carla, together with their children Alberto and Nadia, continue Sergio’s business with the same enthusiasm and dedication. With their Zenato wines they have become a household name in more than 60 countries in the world.

Today the Zenato vineyards extend over 95 hectares between San Benedetto di Lugana, suitable for Trebbiano di Lugana, and S. Ambrogio di Valpolicella, home of the famous Amarone and the great Zenato red wines, which are home to the famous Corvina, Rondinella and Oseleta vines.
