Cherries, plums, cocoa and vanilla: a delicious, intense, soft red wine

Intense, sultry & soft with black cherries, plums, cocoa & a hint of vanilla. Velvety mouthfeel with recurring complex notes of ripe plums & black cherries. The finish of the San Marzano Sud Primitivo is delightfully long. San Marzano is simply magnificent! A full bowl of ripe plums, cherries, chocolate, vanilla, dried basil, oregano, and coffee. Soft and sultry on the palate, yet powerful at the same time. From the best region for Primitivo in Puglia: Pimitivo di Manduria.

A really beautiful glass, well made.

Very reassuring. Does not fall into the trap of becoming overly sweet, despite being heavily sun-ripened. Recommended within the style. Deep ruby. Medium intensity of aromas of raisins, cassis, jam, cinnamon, a hint of leather, vanilla, black cherries, plums. Dry. Medium acidity. Good intensity and tannins.

The San Marzano SUD Primitivo di Manduria is a very accessible red wine to enjoy in an uncomplicated way. Intense red and at the same time soft in taste. Cherries, plums, cocoa, and vanilla. The wine has aged in oak barrels for almost half a year. You can clearly smell this in the wine, which gives it a beautiful refinement.

Moreover, this Primitivo di Manduria pairs perfectly with:

    • antipasti
    • firm cheese
    • lamb
    • But naturally, this wine also pairs perfectly with red meat with rich sauces.

    Cantine San Marzano

The Cantine San Marzano winery produces modern, elegant wines with an excellent price-quality ratio from authentic local grape varieties such as Primitivo, Negroamaro, and Malvasia Nera. The cooperative offers a wide range with various quality levels. The history of the Cantine San Marzano cooperative dates back to 1962, when 19 winegrowers joined forces to improve the quality of their wine. By working together, the winegrowers were able to invest in better machinery. While respecting the region's original wine traditions, the cooperative today works with the most modern and advanced technology.

Today, there are no fewer than 1,200 winegrowers in the Cantine San Marzano cooperative. Together, they own around 1,500 hectares of vineyards, meaning the average area of each individual winegrower is relatively small. Together, they manage to produce beautiful wines! Among Wijnclub Amsterdam's customers, the Puglia wine region is perhaps the most popular wine region for this very reason.
