Scaia Bianca from Tenuta Sant'Antonio is a fresh and soft white wine.In the mouth, Scaia Bianca is softly fresh with a nice balance and a beautiful Italian bitter in the aftertaste. Served chilled, it is a delicious aperitif or a good accompaniment to fish starters, vegetable dishes and cold dishes. Also excellent with pasta, risottos and fruits de mer.
The hand-picked grapes for this wine come from the calcareous volcanic soil (Scaia) in the province of Verona. The different varieties are fermented separately in cooled stainless steel tanks, preventing oxygen from coming into contact with the must. This modern method makes it possible to produce fresh wines from grapes grown in very warm regions.
Afterwards, it is assembled with relatively slightly more garganega than chardonnay. Under its glass stopper, the Scaia Bianca is a bright straw-yellow color with a slightly green tint. The wine has an intense and complex aroma and taste of flowers such as acacia and jasmine, with wafting aromas of pineapple, grapefruit, and orange. You can also detect a hint of apple, pear, mango, and even something of banana.
Northeast of Verona, the four Castagnedi brothers have been processing grapes into fantastic wines on the 48-hectare Tenuta Sant’Antonio estate since 1989. The first wines from Tenuta Sant’Antonio came onto the market in 1995, and the attention of the wine press, importers, and consumers was drawn almost immediately. This was a winery to be reckoned with! The first major recognition took place in 2000 when the Gambero Rosso awarded the Cabernet Sauvignon Capitello 1997 three glasses. In addition to this Scaia Bianca, Wijnclub Amsterdam has other wines from Tenuta Sant’Antonio.
The wine has an intense and complex aroma and taste of flowers such as acacia and jasmine, bursting with notes of pineapple, grapefruit, and orange. On the palate, Scaia Bianca is soft and fresh with a beautiful balance and a lovely Italian bitterness in the finish. Served chilled, between 10-12ºC, this wine is a delightful aperitif or a good accompaniment to fish starters such as crab or scallops, vegetable dishes, and cold dishes. It is also excellent with pasta, risottos, and seafood.
The name Scaia refers to the soil. The ground where the grapes grow here consists of white, chalky limestone and contains many fragments. These fragments are called scaia in the region. The summers are warm, and the winters are relatively mild. The soils consist of a thin layer of limestone, pebbles, clay, and sand.
