The Chardonnay grapes grow in Monterey County, California near the Carmel Valley and are harvested by hand. 90% of the grapes ferment in French oak, a third of which are new barrels. This gives the wine its beautiful round flavor and delicious vanilla and buttery notes. The remaining 10% ferments in stainless steel to preserve the wine's freshness. This ratio ensures that the blended wine is perfectly balanced. Truly a joy to drink and to enjoy with the table! About Bernardus Winery

Almost by chance, former Dutch race car driver Ben Pon acquired a piece of land on the Californian slopes behind Carmel Valley Village in 1989. Here, he started his Bernardus Winery with the goal of producing beautiful, full-bodied wines. Carmel Valley is a magnificent place for vines. The mountains protect the vines from the influences of the sea. Thanks to the cool wind and mist, the grapes ripen slowly. This gives the grapes their beautiful structure and acidity.

The special quality of Carmel Valley is clearly visible in the Carmel Valley wineries, tasting rooms, and wine bars found along the dramatic valley. Well-drained, gravelly terraces, such as those found in Bordeaux, combined with the average low temperature caused by the sea, characterize the terroir of Carmel Valley (which received an official AVA designation in 1983). Also, be sure to try the iconic Marinus wine, made from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties, which make up 70% of the Carmel Valley AVA.
