Cardellino Chardonnay is winemaker Elena Walch's most popular white wine. Straw-yellow in color, it has an attractive aroma of exotic fruit and a subtle hint of toasted bread. On the palate, the Cardellino is deliciously juicy, mineral, elegantly structured with a pleasant freshness, a touch of honey, and great length.
Elena Walch is among the top wineries in Alto Adige. Together with her two daughters, she runs Elena Walch As a family business, she produces quality wines that enjoy great international success. This is hardly surprising, as Elena Walch played a leading role in the quality revolution that Alto Adige has undergone over the past decades. But it is not only those innovations in the vineyard and cellar that make her wines so exceptional. Her philosophy is also largely dedicated to the terroir and the idea that the specific characteristics of the soil, (micro)climate, and work in the vineyard must be optimally expressed in every wine. Sustainability is also an important principle in all facets of wine production. The picturesque estates of Castel Ringberg and Kastelaz form the core of the vineyards, which cover a total of approximately 55 hectares. Elena Walch's wines are characterized by their modern, elegant, and refined style.
The Chardonnay grapes for this wine come from vineyards around Lake Caldaro. After gentle pressing, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks. 15% of the wine is aged in French oak.
Elena Walch's Cardellino Chardonnay has a straw-yellow color with an aroma of ripe exotic fruit and a hint of toasted bread. The taste is full, juicy, and mineral. Elegant structure with plenty of freshness, a touch of honey, and great length. Served slightly chilled, this is an ideal wine with appetizers, pastas with creamy sauces, smoked salmon, and fried fish.
Cardellino, as depicted on the bottle, is named after the goldfinch, a songbird of the finch family that is often seen in this wine region.
