The Rebellious Winery RedHeads Studio

RedHeads Studio, founded by a group of idiosyncratic young winemakers, is known for its unconventional approach in McLaren Vale. Their philosophy revolves around ‘liberating’ high-quality grapes from South Australia. The Coco Rotie is made with great precision, with the grapes fermenting together in open vats. For fifteen days, the ‘cap’ is manually submerged twice daily for optimal extraction. After fermentation, the wine ages for fourteen months in oak barrels, a quarter of which are new.

The label: The Legend of the Monkey King

The story behind the RedHeads Coco Rotie dates back to the year 638. The label tells the legend of an insatiable Monkey King. No amount of wine could quench his divine thirst, and no mountain of roasted coconuts could satisfy his heavenly hunger. This mythical history inspires the character of this contemporary wine.

Full-bodied but not heavy or rich, there's a strong savory streak on the palate that compliments the tangy fruit and fine-grained tannins.”
