    Sun-baked and beautifully aged

Domaine Bassac Cuvée Le Manpot Rouge is a deliciously smooth organic red wine from the Languedoc in the South of France. Le Manpot Rouge has a beautiful dark color in the glass. Concentrated nose of sun-dried fruit and licorice. The taste is robust with fine tannins and stewed fruit. A very fine combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah with just under 3 months of oak aging.

    Le Manpot

What does that big moustache on the bottle mean? And what exactly is Le Manpòt? With these questions, we end up with François Delhon of Domaine Bassac. This wine turns out to be a tribute to François’s great-great-grandfather. The old man did a lot for viticulture in the Hérault region and built the wine cellar that is still in use today. ‘And Manpot?’ I hear you thinking. François: ‘Le Manpot is an Occitan word meaning penguin (a person with only one arm). It’s not very funny, but it was the nickname of the great-great-grandfather who has only one arm and a very big moustache!’

    Domaine Bassac

The family business Domaine Bassac has a long history in organic wines; organic farming has been practiced here since the 1980s, making them a pioneer of the Languedoc. The Domaine is located in the triangle formed by Béziers, Pézénas, and Bédarieux and covers 60 hectares. The vineyards are situated on various soil types, allowing for the cultivation of many different grape varieties.

White wines are made from Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat, and Chardonnay. Red wines are made from typical Southern French grape varieties such as Carignan, Grenache, and Cinsault. Other grapes used by Domaine Bassac to produce red wine are Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot.

    Prices and recommendations

That Le Manpot from Domaine Bassac is a wonderfully delicious wine is also endorsed by the Dutch wine experts below:

    • Review in Perswijn Aug/Sep 2015 – ***(*) (2013)
    • Hubrecht Duijker monthly magazine October 2015 – ‘The 2013 vintage offers, in its full, smooth flavor, an attractive combination of mild roasted notes (thanks to a year in the barrel), very ripe black fruits, and dark, bay leaf-like elements.’
