Yes, because “ripasso” literally means ‘to pass again’. The winemaker first takes the somewhat lighter Valpolicella and then subjects it to a small second fermentation on the pressed grapes of its beloved, powerful sibling, Amarone. As a result, the Torre del Falasco Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore simultaneously gains more body and power, and adopts something of the exciting velvetiness of the Amarone. This deep red wine has a warm aroma of ripe and stewed black and red fruit, with flavors of berries, licorice, blossom, gingerbread, raisins, sweet spices, and tobacco. Layered, slightly sweet, with velvety tannins and an impressive length. An ultimate dinner wine. The choice is vast: from cheeses, pâtés, fine red meats, and stews to dishes with tomatoes and tomato sauces. Incidentally, the Torre del Falasco Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore is also lovely to drink on its own, later in the evening by the fireplace or on TV, together with your loved one.
The Valpantena, a valley northeast of Verona, has long been known as a wine-growing region. It lies in the heart of the Veneto, one of Italy’s most important wine-producing regions. Cantina Valpantena, a cooperative of 270 producers with 600 hectares of vineyards, has been active here since 1958. Valpantena’s scope of operations extends across the well-known trio of appellations in the Verona area: Soave, Bardolino, and Valpolicella, with the latter considered a specialty. From this appellation, beautiful Amarone and Ripasso wines are subsequently produced under the Torre del Falasco label, including this Torre del Falasco Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore.
Cantina Valpantena is a very progressive cooperative in Veneto. The strength of this company lies primarily in the production of attractively priced Valpolicella wines (including Ripasso and Amarone). A team of oenologists, an agronomic consultancy team, management that is in contact with the employees, and a group of workers that is continuously updated and trained on various fronts. By adopting an ethical code and paying attention to the employee, the company has been able to create a solid working foundation for both the old and the new generations; a foundation based, in summary, on respect, safety, quality (of life and the environment), and the desire to learn and progress together.
In 2017, Cantina Valpantena was named the third best Italian wine cooperative in Italy by the renowned magazine Weinwirtschaft. By now, the awards are coming in thick and fast!
