Vibrant red fruit, subtle earthy notes and a juicy finish! The Hensel Aufwind Spätburgunder is a refined red wine from the Palatinate, one of the most important wine regions of Germany. Made from the Spätburgunder-druif (Pinot NoirIt has fruity aromas and light spiciness. Thanks to the relatively warm climate, the grapes can ripen optimally, while the calcareous soils ensure a beautiful structure and finesse. The majority of the wine ages in stainless steel tanks, ensuring the fresh fruit notes are well preserved. Additionally, approximately 10% ages in used oak barrels, which adds extra complexity without dominating the wine with oak influences.

In the glass, the Hensel Aufwind Spätburgunder a bright, ruby red color. The aroma is inviting and full of notes of juicy cherries, wild strawberries, and subtle hints of clove and toasted wood. On the palate, the wine is soft and smooth, with a refined balance of fruit, tannins, and a light spiciness. The peppery finish gives the wine just that little extra character.

Weingut Hensel is located in Bad Dürkheim, a well-known wine region in the Pfalz. The name ‘Aufwind’ refers to the rising air currents that are important for gliders – and it just so happens that a glider airfield is located right next to this winery. The Pfalz is known for its relatively warm climate, which is particularly favorable for the ripening of Spätburgunder.
Thomas Hensel combines modern winemaking techniques with respect for tradition. His wines are expressive yet accessible and beautifully balanced. Hensel Aufwind Spätburgunder is mainly fermented and matured in stainless steel tanks, which enhances the fruity and fresh style. A small part also matures in used oak barrels, which gives the wine extra depth without overpowering wood tones.
