Colossal Reserva from Casa Santos Lima is a full-bodied and rich wine with fine acidity, soft tannins, and a long finish of dark fruit and spices. It is a wine that pairs well with a hearty meal of grilled beef, a spicy lamb stew, and pungent hard cheeses. Casa Santos Lima certainly knows how to produce internationally popular wines. Over 90% of their wide range leaves the Portuguese borders as exports to five continents.

    Casa Santos Lima

The DOP Alenquer is located approximately 40 kilometers north of Lisbon. Situated in the Lisbon area, this region is home to a number of interesting wine estates where wine has been produced for centuries. The family business Casa Santos Lima also manages several estates or quintas in this area, near the town of Torres Vedras. These are Quinta da Boavista, also known as Setencostas, and Quinta da Espiga in Palha Canas. The winery was founded by Joaquim Santos Lima and was already one of Portugal's largest producers and exporters by the end of the 19th century. Today, the vineyards on this family's 280-hectare estate cover approximately 160 hectares. They are optimally positioned in relation to the sun, and the influence of the Atlantic sea breeze keeps the climate here moderate.

    Terroir and winemaking

A climate with warm summers and cold winters. The terroir consists primarily of limestone, gravel, and clay. The ripe grapes undergo a cold maceration of 24 hours and ferment in large, temperature-controlled vats. This is followed by another 15 days of skin maceration. Finally, the wine ages for 8 months in French and American oak barrels.

    Taste and food pairing

The deep purple wine is characterized by abundant ripe red fruit and plums, a light floral note, and distinct aromas of spices. The wine is full and rich, has fine acidity, soft tannins, and a long finish of dark fruit and spices. The wine pairs well with grilled beef, spicy lamb stew, or pungent hard cheeses.
