Cabernet Sauvignon meets Primitivo! You have to taste this!

This Conte di Campiano Cabernet Sauvignon / Primitivo is actually a sort of limited edition, named “15 Gradi” (15% alcohol). That 15% alcohol seems like a lot…. But precisely because of the power of the wine’s flavor, this level is perfectly balanced. This ruby-red wine with orange hues is full of fruity aromas of sun-baked sweet cherries and plums. Towards the end, some notes of tobacco also make an appearance. Well-balanced with good structure and supple tannins, with a light cherry-like finish.

Do pair it with a tasty dish, as this red wine can handle it perfectly. How about a traditional Dutch kale mash with a tender fried pork chop? Bringing the taste of summer to the table with a winter dish. In the summer, on the other hand, the smoky spareribs from the BBQ is also served alongside. It handles a slight sweetness and some smokiness in the food perfectly well. Just like its siblings, this wine comes from the Puglia region in Southern Italy. The soil of the vineyards is clayey and calcareous. The grapes are harvested in October before vinification begins with maceration on the skins to obtain better aromas and colors. Finally, the aging of the Conte di Campiano Cabernet Sauvignon Primitivo ages in steel tanks for 4-6 months.

    The Count of Campiano

The winery, founded in 1930, is also marketed under the name Contri Spumanti and formerly focused more on the development of sparkling wines such as Spumante and Prosecco.
This is different today, as the company, based in the Veneto wine region, is extraordinarily successful in the production of excellent still red and white wines. The Conte di Campiano wine series is the latest success of the Contri Spumanti winery. Contri is based in Cazzano di Tramigna and has already gained an incredible amount of viticultural experience in Veneto and Emilia-Romagna. Paolo Contri sought sun-drenched, powerful wines, but also commercial wines.

So he set his sights on the south of Italy. And that turned out very well! Around Manduria, but also in Salento and Taranto, Contri found old Primitivo vineyards that yield the best grapes for his creations. Conte di Campiano is currently on everyone's lips, not least because Primitivo from Puglia has been booming in Western Europe for years.
