Acaibo: not yet discovered by the general public, but this is a Champions League-level wine.

Top scores from wine critics: 96 Decanter / 96 Suckling / 94 Anson

James Suckling, 96/100: “This is firm and structured with focus and precision. medium- to full-bodied with ripe but fresh dark berries, cocoa and dried orange peel. very attractive mineral undertone that gives tension on the mid-palate”.

Acaibo: The “Bordeaux of California” by the Lurton family

Are you a lover of the classic structure of Bordeaux, but seeking the sun-drenched intensity of California? Meet Acaibo. This wine often flies under the radar, but anyone who tastes it will immediately understand why connoisseurs are enthusiastic. It is a rare find: a Californian premium wine with a European heart and a surprisingly accessible price.

French Craftsmanship in the Heart of Sonoma

Acaibo is the passion project of Claire and Gonzague Lurton. As owners of three legendary Bordeaux Grand Cru Classé châteaux — Château Durfort-Vivens, Ferrière, and Haut-Bages Libéral — they know better than anyone how to make world-class wines.

During their search for the ultimate terroir in the United States, they found the perfect spot in Chalk Hill (Sonoma). At the intersection of the iconic regions of Russian River, Knight’s Valley, and Alexander Valley, they found the soil that offers the necessary depth and minerality for their vision.

De Stijl: Restrained Power and Elegance

What makes Acaibo unique is its restraint. Where many Californian wines sometimes overwhelm with alcohol and oak, Acaibo remains true to the French philosophy:

    • The Blend: A classic Bordeaux blend, dominated by 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by 9% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. The wine has aged for 16 months in French oak, 70% of which is new.
    • BiodynamicJust as on their estates in Margaux and Pauillac, the Lurtons work here according to strict biodynamic principles. This translates into a wine that ‘lives’ and purely reflects the terroir.
    • European FinesseIn blind tastings, Acaibo effortlessly holds its own alongside big names from the Médoc. The style is elegant, fresh, and beautifully balanced, with silky tannins.

Acaibo Tasting Note: Complexity and refinement

    • Scent: Aromas of black fruit (blackcurrant and blackberries), interwoven with subtle notes of graphite, cedarwood, and a hint of dried herbs.
    • Taste: An impressive structure. The wine is full and concentrated, yet retains a striking freshness. The mouthfeel is aristocratic and refined.
    • Finish: Long, clean, and mineral. A wine that invites the next sip.

Gastronomic Advice: What do you serve with Acaibo?

This wine is an ideal partner for fine dining. Our experts recommend:

    • Red Meat: A tender leg of lamb with thyme and rosemary or a classic Entrecôte Bordelaise.
    • Game: Roasted venison with a reduction of wild mushrooms.
    • Aged Cheeses: A nice Comté or an aged Dutch farmhouse cheese.

    Why buy Acaibo now?

Californian wines of this quality level (think of Opus One or Dominus) often cost many times more. Acaibo offers the unique opportunity to drink a Sonoma Estate Wine made by the absolute top of Bordeaux, without paying the top price.

Wine fact: The name ‘Acaibo’ comes from a local dialect and refers to the harmony between the elements. A fitting name for a wine that builds the perfect bridge between the Old and the New World.
