Crisp, dry wine with plenty of body from Portugal!

Melon, lemon, gooseberry, grass, flint. Freshness, acidity and saltiness. The Quinta da Bacalhôa Branco is a great white wine with its own character. This wine is made from a unique blend of Alvarinho, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, from the vineyards on the picturesque peninsula Setúbal in Portugal. The combination of these grapes creates a wine with a rich texture and complex flavors. The Quinta da Bacalhôa Branco has a nice combination of freshness and fullness. It is nicely balanced and has a long aftertaste.

The winery takes a unique approach by combining both indigenous and international grape varieties. The grapes are vinified separately in stainless steel tanks, while a small portion of the Sémillon ages in French oak. This process, together with four months of bâtonnage, gives the wine extra complexity and thus a softer structure.

    Taste and Food Pairings

On the palate, the Quinta da Bacalhôa Branco displays a round, fruity flavour with layers of lemon peel, spices, honey, coconut, and floral notes. The full texture is supported by refreshing acidity, creating a balanced and pleasant mouthfeel. This versatile wine pairs excellently with cheeses from the Azeitão region, but also combines perfectly with spiced fish dishes or chicken. Try serving the wine at a temperature of 8-10°C to allow the fresh aromas and full flavours to come into their own.

Wine critics on the Branco Quinta da Bacalhôa

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate on the 2017 vintage – 90 points “The 2017 Branco Quinta da Bacalhôa, the Estate Branco, is roughly a blend of 50% Semillon, 25% Alvarinho and 25% Sauvignon Blanc. This is unoaked but for 15% of the Semillon aged in new French oak for five months. It comes in at 13% alcohol. This is not head and shoulders above the less expensive whites, but it does have more power and better concentration than most. It is also a bit more distinctive, with a lot of personality, thanks to the interesting blend. This is another fine value from the producer this issue.”

Wine Enthusiast on the 2016 vintage – 90 points  “As a partner to the red wine from this estate, with its Bordeaux blend, this wine brings together the Bordeaux white grapes of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The addition of Alvarinho rather spoils the Bordeaux moment, although for the wine it it’s a plus, adding crisp taste and brightness to this rich wood-aged blend. Drink this tropical, fruity and pear-flavored wine from 2018.”
