The Bernardus Chardonnay is an iconic wine from California! In addition to the standard 0.75-liter bottle size, we also have 1.5-liter magnums available. A larger bottle size ensures greater aging potential. The Bernardus Chardonnay is a fantastic oak-aged white wine made from the Chardonnay grape. Full and rich in flavor! The aroma is full of tropical fruit, dried fruit, caramel, toast, a hint of butter, and honey. One of the best American Chardonnays from AVA Monterey: Central Coast, California, south of San Francisco. The ultimate wine for lovers of a rich, full-bodied Chardonnay! A joy to drink!
The wine possesses tremendous complexity, to which wood aging has made a significant contribution. 90% of the grapes are fermented in French oak, of which 33% are new barrels, with the remaining 10% in stainless steel to preserve freshness. This Bernardus Chardonnay has intense aromas of white flowers, acacia, and exotic fruit, along with a very substantial hint of vanilla. A beautiful, almost syrupy golden-yellow wine with a long and powerful finish. A fantastic and slightly bombastic wine!
The structure and intensity of the wine call for intense and somewhat rich dishes. Not a wine to drink as an aperitif, but truly for the table. The wine calls for the use of cream in dishes: not only smoked salmon, but also think of pasta carbonara, as well as poultry in a tarragon cream sauce or blanquette de veau.
More or less by chance, former Dutch race car driver Ben Pon acquired a piece of land on the Californian slopes behind Carmel Valley Village in 1989. Here he started his Bernardus Winery with the aim of making beautiful iconic wines. Carmel Valley is a beautiful place for vines. The influence of the winds from the cold Pacific Ocean is great here, which moderates the influence of the heat of the sun. Thanks to the cool wind and fog, the grapes ripen slowly. This gives the grapes their beautiful structure and acidity.
