Oak-aged Californian Sauvignon Blanc
Bernardus Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine from California by the renowned Bernardus winery. This wine is more powerful and rounder than a standard Sauvignon Blanc because 20% of the wine has undergone oak aging. It is light yellow in color with seductive aromas of citrus, gooseberry, and some green notes, such as freshly cut grass. After taking a sip, you taste hints of grapefruit, gooseberry, citrus, and tropical fruit.
Bernardus is best known for its oak-aged Chardonnay. But do not underestimate this Californian-style Sauvignon Blanc.
Bernardus was founded by a Dutchman, Ben Pon. He became known as an importer of several famous car brands. He established Bernardus in Monterey County, California. Bernardus primarily uses grapes from the old (French) wine world, such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir. The vineyards are perfectly situated. The vines stand on slopes that together form an amphitheater, a “Super Bowl” as it is called in America. The mountains protect the vines from excessive influences from the sea. The cool wind and mist ensure a slow ripening of the grapes, resulting in grapes with a beautiful structure. The estate is considered one of the best at the moment.
